I found this very cool YouTube channel that does a blind read of OSS codebases. The algorithm recommended it after I spent a Saturday night wrapped in Robert Haas’ talk to Andy Pavlo’s CMU class on why it’s hard to build an optimizer—and also how shockingly simple logic is extremely effective in practice. Topic for another time.
We’re so used to reading code as a private experience, so it’s a fun and interesting watch to see him build context around optimizer paths specifically (Postgres surface area is massive so even covering the full optimizer would likely be an 8 hour video).
He also just did one for Cloud Native PG. Check it out! Fun watch!
